Zoë Modiga and Zu.: Black girl magic personified

Closing off the last instalment of Bassline Live at The Lyric Theatre are two queens who share a love for activism, music and fashion but have each carved identities that are unique and true to their individual stories. 

A representative of the present and future of Mzansi’s music 

With a background in classical and jazz training, Zoë Modiga is known to enchant audiences into another world while having an evocative individualism in fashion and imagery. She is also an activist who has partnered with allies, university students, academics, war survivors and artists, with the support of the African Union for the Silencing the Guns campaign. 

A creative freedom fighter and lover of life

Zu. is an actor, a songwriter, composer, vocalist who specializes in what she calls an eclectic fusion of afro pop, afro soul and funk. She is also a seamstress and the founder of Zuko Collective, a collection of creative freedom fighters on a mission to make the impossible commercial. “We are life-lovers who come together to do what we feel we were called to do,” she says.
