Independent Queer Black Artist, Advocate for Independent Musicians, and Gender Equality Activist Namakau Star is an independent queer Black artist, advocate for independent musicians, and gender equality activist.
As a multi hyphenate creative, she amplifies voices and drives change across Africa and beyond. In 2024, she became the Head of Communications and A&R at Paradise Africa, curating monthly workshops to upskill independent artists and labels in release strategies to increase revenue. With a background in International Relations and Media Studies, Namakau bridges the worlds of diplomacy, pop culture, and music business. Her five-year career in marketing, highlighted by winning the Gold Bookmark Award for Tymebank in 2022, has honed her skills in audience connection and strategy development.
Namakau’s impact extends beyond her own artistry. She has been instrumental in initiatives like the Africa Rising Music Conference, fostering industry connections and bridging gaps in diverse music ecosystems. As a speaker, she offers insights into the evolving music industry, representation, and authentic creative expression. Namakau has spoken at multiple conferences, including Fame Week Africa, Africa Rising Music Conference, XP Music Futures, JM International Global Music Conference, and WISE Music Conference. Her expertise spans topics from night-time safety to industry development, continuously advocating for progress in the music world.
